In the highs and lows of 2020 we were lucky enough to meet Cara Rooney, an illustrator from Dundee, Scotland. Cara graduated in the midsts of the pandemic but was extremely proactive in finding stepping stones and opportunities to launch her career. Her work is extremely bright and tactile, and encompasses not only illustration but also touches on hand lettering, printmaking, book binding, interactive worksheets and toys.
Cara’s work was selected for the Nationwide Degree Show from over 1000 entries and she went on to win the FreshMeet Stand Out Grads competition.
In a global pandemic, the tactility and interactive nature of Cara’s work is particularly appealing. Not only does her work spread joy, but it also encourages audience participation. The inherent link to nature is especially refreshing in the current climate and Cara’s ability to play to this niche has propelled her early career.
Her accolades now include being shortlisted for Penguin’s Student Design Award and the Thomas Delgaty Dunn Award from the University of Dundee.
We can’t recommend Cara enough for any projects you have that would suit a colourful, textural and interactive element. She is professional to a T and enthusiastic for every project. We’ve been delighted to work with her and we’re sure you would be too.
