Graduate Feature: Kohenoor Kamal
As part of our Valentine’s interview with Fahud Ahmed we asked Fahud if he’d like to recommend any emerging talent to be featured on our website. Fahud, a keen mentor, had a hard job of narrowing it down to just two, but one of his suggestions is Kohenoor Kamal.
Kohenoor graduated from Leeds Arts Uni in the midsts of the COVID pandemic but has landed on her feet (as much as one can land on their feet as we adapt to this weird “new normal”). Although she studied Graphic Design, Kohenoor describes herself as a ‘multi-disciplinary’ creative, drawing on whichever medium suits her brief more. She works fluidly between illustration and graphic design, often blending the two to create exquisitely colourful and textural pieces.
Kohenoor is currently based in the North of England, but is making the most of remote-working by collaborating with clients from across the UK. Keeping her busy recently are her collaborations with The Tate and In Good Company.
Since graduating, Kohenoor has found a niche in working on projects for social change and social good. She is part of a generation of designers that are passionate about ethical projects but her work stands out from her peers with its textural, vibrant and colourful qualities.
If there ever was a “traditional entry” to the creative industries then the pandemic has turned that on its head. Kohenoor has made strong progress putting her name out there and has very fortunately been quite busy since graduation. With such a diverse set of skills we could see Kohenoor working comfortably as either a freelance practitioner or within an agency as her career develops. Whichever she chooses we’re sure it will be a success!
If you’re looking for a hybrid designer who works fluidly across typography and illustration then stop your search now. Kohenoor’s vibrant work is engaging and charming whilst being confident and motivational too: a splash of colour in an otherwise all-to-often grey world. We can’t wait to see what’s next!
